Drawing and Painting Program This step-by-step, guided instructional approach suggests that all images can be broken down into simple pieces, like a puzzle. From these pieces, we encourage students to create a complete work of art using a variety of media, including markers, colored pencils, graphite, charcoal, oil pastels, acrylics, tempera paints, watercolor, paper and textiles, found objects and fun embellishments! A variety of subjects will be explored which may include still life, landscape/cityscape, human form, animal kingdom, sea life, plants and abstract.
Class Descriptions:
Early Drawing & Painting (4-5 yrs) Students will explore the basics in art such as cutting, pasting, shapes, lines, texture and color in a safe environment with an emphasis on developing early visual literacy and fine motor skills. Activities will include collage, sculpture, drawing and painting. This class also helps children with social interaction in group activities.
Basic Drawing & Painting (5-7 yrs) This class is designed for children ages 5-7 years old. It provides students with methods of seeing, visualizing and expressing themselves on paper. Following the instructor in a step-by-step approach allows the student to see projects take shape from beginning to end and experiment with various mediums.
Mixed Media I (8-12 yrs) This class is designed for children ages 8-12 years old. Basic drawing principles will be applied in each project, reinforcing shape, color, composition and perspective. Students will learn using a step-by-step approach. Some projects will use more than one drawing medium (for example, marker and color pencil). Students will be encouraged to develop their own individual style.
Mixed Media II (13 yrs & up) This drawing class is for teen artists looking to experience and learn how to draw. While basic techniques will be covered, our instructors are experts at guiding the levels of each learner individually. No drawing experience necessary! Students will learn how to shade using highlights and shadow, start and complete well-composed works of art and mix colors. Throughout the course, student will learn valuable techniques in a variety of media.
Adult Basic Drawing & Painting If you have little or no drawing or painting experience or would simply like to learn more advanced techniques and get a better understanding of the art creating process, this is the class for you. Students will be encouraged to develop their own styles and creative approaches.
